Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Our second day exploring the ancient cities of Aspendos and Perga deepened our connection to the Apostle Paul's mission and the spread of early Christianity. Walking through these historic sites, we reflected on biblical passages that brought to life Paul's strategic and spirit-led journey across the Roman Empire.
Footsteps and Faith
In Perga, where Acts 13:13-14 traces Paul's journey, we imagined the apostle walking these very streets, filled with a divine purpose. This visual brought 2 Timothy 4:2 to mind, urging us to be ready to share the gospel in every circumstance, just as Paul did.
Our group paused among the Perge ruins to consider First Corinthians 9:22-23, where Paul talks about becoming "all things to all people" for the sake of the gospel. Romans 12:1-2 also resonated, reminding us not to conform to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds—a poignant lesson amidst the remnants of Roman grandeur. The well-preserved amphitheatre in Aspendos illustrated how Paul utilized Roman infrastructure to spread Christianity. Acts 17:22-23, describing Paul's speech at the Areopagus, highlighted his ability to engage diverse audiences, a strategy that made his mission so effective.
Reflecting on Acts 20:24, we felt a renewed sense of purpose. Paul's dedication to "finish the race and complete the task" of spreading the gospel challenged us to consider our own commitment to sharing God's grace in our modern "Roman Empire."
Our journey through Aspendos and Perga was more than a historical tour; it was formational. Walking where Paul walked and reflecting on his letters and actions, we gained a deeper understanding of the early Christian mission and our role in continuing this legacy today. As we look forward to the next part of our journey, we carry with us the lessons of faith, adaptability, and perseverance that Paul's example so vividly teaches.
