Travel day. While the driver loaded the luggage at 05:15am, we had a quick breakfast and the bus ride to airport took about 45 minutes. Izmir to Istanbul to Athens. I am proud to say we didn’t lose anyone through the airport even though we walked a mile and a half though a gauntlet of gift shops. As we flew into Athens, we heard the flight attendant say “Welcome to Greece, ladies and gentlemen and dear children.”
We met our tour guide: Kerri. Then short tour of the city with a quick stop at the Olympic Marathon track used in the 1896 Olympics. Recently used by ParaOlympians. It also pays homage to the man, Pheidippids, who ran from the battle of Marathon battle and died from exhaustion when he arrived. We are exhausted from the long day but still smiling as we headed up to our rooms. Dinner on the rooftop terrace and ended the day with a beautiful sunset.
