And with that our tour of the holy land comes to an end, however, the beauty of this trip is what we do from here. How we read the Word in “3D”, how we talk of the land, how we share of our experiences with others when we go home, how we teach our congregations and lead differently after having walked and talked and read about the land for 9 full days.

It’s been my pleasure to tour the land of Israel twenty times since 2001. Often I tell people at home that no matter how excited I get about sharing how wonderful the experience is to go to the land of Israel, I’ve never had someone say to me once they got here, that I over-hyped the trip. It is so amazing once you arrive here.

When I first thought of what this trip was going to be like…what I expected…I’ll be honest, IT CAN’T COMPARE to what I have actually experienced so far on this journey in Israel!!! More times than I can count on my fingers or toes alike, I would find myself just murmuring “Wooooooooowwww….” The Stark contrasts of the landscapes and climates, all within a few mile radius…it’s unbelievable. It definitely is a drastic difference to the majority of the United Sates.

Coming to Israel was on my bucket list! I never really thought I’d have my feet actually touch the land. God so blessed us to come and experience this adventure that to this point of the trip, has exceeded my expectations on every level!
I know the Word is alive and believe with all my heart in the stories we study, share, and live out in our daily lives. Israel is rich with history, and it brings to life these stories we’ve read in the Bible.

Today was a very full day of sights throughout the Galilee!! From the ancient city of Chorazin to Tabgha to Capernaum to a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to a falafel lunch to Mount Arbel… we have officially made it to the land where Jesus walked and lived, called his disciples and performed many miracles.

There’s an old saying that goes, “we make our plans and God laughs.” We find that expressed Biblically in Proverbs 16:9 which says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
So the “plan” yesterday was to visit Masada, but the weather prevented us from that. As we gathered last night before dinner, we prayed that the Lord would make a way for us to make that a reality for today, and the Lord answered that prayer! We spent an amazing few hours at Masada this morning, learning the history and impact of that incredible site. And, along with our other visits at other locations, we came to understand in a fuller way why this site is so meaningful.

Rain can be seen as such an inconvenience to us. For Israel, and especially in the Negev (Dead Sea area), it only rains 2-4 inches on average a year! What a blessing for Israel and for us to have been here to see it first hand! Our plans to visit Masada changed when we were turned back at the gate and were forced to alter our itinerary. What ensued as a result was a day different from the one that had been planned for us. Oh, but isn’t that the way God often chooses to do the work He wants to do in us?

“Come and see for yourself!” Is one of the only ways we can accurately explain a trip to Israel to family and friends. We get flustered at our inability to articulate everything we experience on this tour. Could we show pictures from the Valley of Elah to tell you about the epic showdown between David and Goliath? Sure, but it won’t show you what it’s like to stand in the whipping wind while imagining David running miles from Bethlehem to confront the Champion Goliath. Could I describe what it is like to sing, “Amazing Grace” with 57 fellow pastors and ministers in a first century cave today? Probably, but it will not capture the genuine fellowship of pastors from all over the country encouraging each other and sharing stories as we climb down the stairs to Bet Gurin/Marasha.

Just a quick update to let everyone know that we made it to Israel safe and sound. The Miami, Los Angles and Chicago groups met up in Istanbul caught a flight together to Tel Aviv Israel were we met up at the airport with our Israeli ground team. What a long flight with a few delays but as they say, once you board an airliner to the Middle East your trip to the Holy Land begins. Too many stories to tell but let’s just say it was fun to experience so many cultures right from the start as well as drinking a lot of Turkish coffee.
From here we are heading to our hotel to try and get a few hours sleep before we start our first full day tomorrow. Continue to follow our trip, as we will do a bigger post tomorrow with some videos and photos. Thanks again for the prayers and following our journey.

We are excited to tell you that all the California crew have arrived at LAX airport and have finished the fun check in process on Turkish Airlines. We are all here, besides our friends flying out of Miami and Chicago who will be meeting us in Istanbull. While our group is not all together we are having fun getting to know the West Coast crew for the first time. While we all might be strangers at this point we have a lot in common as everyone works in some form of vocational ministry. Truly this is going to be a trip of a lifetime and we look forward to seeing how God will use this group of men and women to help shape our time together. Keep following this blog as we will be updating often. Here is to the 12-hour flight ahead of us with a layover in Istanbul and then another two hour flight to the Holy Land. Use the links below to follow our flights.

Shalom friends and family,
I can hardly believe that the time has come for this trip to begin. We at GTI Tours and Hume Lake are very excited for the experience these men and women are about to partake in. Within their busy ministry schedules they have spent the last 4 months studying through a 9 lesson GTI curriculum that goes through everything from basic Hebrew to geography of the land as well as Biblical locations and concepts.

On January 2-13th of 2018 a group of 58 pastors, teachers, students (in association with GTI tours and Hume Lake Christian Camps) from different churches and schools throughout the United States will be traveling together on a once in a lifetime study tour of Israel.
We invite you; friends, family, coworkers and church congregations to follow this blog and journey together with us as we open the Bible and ask God to reveal himself to us through the context of the land in which it all took place. Our hope and prayer is that through the investment of this trip these men and women will come home with a deeper passion for God’s word and in return invest that back into you.

Our trip to Israel will be here before you know it!
Once we’re on the ground in Israel, we’ll post periodic updates and photos. Check back often or get update notifications using the subscribe options on this page.
We’ll be sharing our travel experiences online with you, our friends and family, to not only bring you along on the journey with us, but to also solicit your ongoing prayer and support. Most of us on this trip have been preparing mentally and spiritually for what will be a life-changing experience in the land. We’re also preparing physically as we train our bodies to handle all the time we’ll spend on our feet walking. So please pray that we would be diligent in our preparations and we would all be ready to learn what God has to teach us!
