Shalom from Clint and Heather!
Another sunny beautiful day in Jerusalem. Walking through Hezekiah's tunnel that brought water into Jerusalem, witnessing and dancing with three different Bar Mitzvahs in the Old City, walking to the Southern steps to Temple, seeing Israel and Holocaust museums, and hearing Bridges for Peace share their mission. Whew!
A 1750-foot (530m) tunnel carved during the reign of Hezekiah to bring water from one side of the city to the other, Hezekiah’s Tunnel together with the 6th c. tunnel of Euphalios in Greece are considered the greatest works of water engineering technology in the pre-Classical period. Had it followed a straight line, the length would have been 1070 ft (335m) or 40% shorter.
Water has been constant metaphor of the trip. Israel constantly has sought water! From the time in the wilderness to this very day, water is treasured. We studied 2 Chronicles and I Kings passages on the Assyrian besiegement, where Sennacherib shuts off the water supply. Amazingly, the Israelites cut through mountain on both sides and created a rudimentary channel of water to the city, and the Israelites were spared by the water that was "sent" through the rock.
As I walked through the .5 mile tunnel that is so narrow that you must walk sideways at times, I thought of Jesus, my sent Living Water. Our Pastor, Randy, reminded us that John's Gospel is filled with miraculous and saving imagery with water. None is better than John 7:37, where Jesus stands up on the final day of the feast of booths and declares that whoever will believe upon Him, will have streams of Living Water flow from within.
I believe in Jesus, so that means...I've got a river of life flowing out of me...most days. Some days I shut off the spring and live from a very dry source- my flesh. In the states, we live without thinking most days about accessing water. Here, you would think about it every day. God, make us thirsty for Living Water every day. Show us our dry souls and release the Spring of Christ in us!
Thanks for following...
