Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today was a very full day of sights throughout the Galilee!! From the ancient city of Chorazin to Tabgha to Capernaum to a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to a falafel lunch to Mount Arbel... we have officially made it to the land where Jesus walked and lived, called his disciples and performed many miracles.
Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of his ministry: “Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum” (Matt 4:13).
Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen living in the village. Matthew the tax collector also dwelt here.
Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith.
On the bus today I overheard someone say as they were getting on that she found herself constantly wishing that Jesus was there today in the same exact spots sharing with us like he did in Biblical Times. She went on to say, “but isn’t it crazy Jesus said that it is better for us that He goes?” We have these stories in the Bible and now we have been to the places they took place. We have be walking the land and gaining perspective of how first century Jews lived and it continues to deepen our understanding of the text and context of what is written. I love Israel and all that we are learning but I am equally grateful that God has given me the gift of His Spirit that lives with in us because He is no longer here but in us.
This land gives us pictures but His spirit goes with me. Both are a treasure.
