Excitement, richness, and celebration

Day five was one of excitement, richness, and celebration. As Saturday in Israel this day was the Sabbath. Following last nights special dinner, the group did not take the day off of exploring the Galilee region. Day five held the most cited to be visited then previous days. A total of seven sites were explored and dissected by the Well group and leaders.

The first experience was a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. The ride included a message from Well Pastor Mike Cirricione on the trust that we have in Jesus Christ and the story of Jesus walking on water and Peter trying to. A main focus point was that

Jesus letʼs us sink a little bit into the water of struggle and life to let us know that he is going to rescue and pull us out. The rest of the ride included a group dance party and a time of listening to worship songs while crossing the Sea of Galilee.

The first official site was the ancient city of Chorazin.. Part of the religious triangle of cities that Jesus focused the first phase of ministry. Here the group saw a synagogue from ancient times. The group learned about Jewish worship customs and how the agenda of a synagogue worked. Well Pastor Brad Bell shared details and foreshadowed the soon to come, Synagogue of Capernuam.

Chorazin

The synagogue at Chorazin is a typical “Galilean” style synagogue. These synagogues are characterized by 1) a basilical shape with three hallways separated by two rows of pillars; 2) three doorways and the central one is the largest; 3) benches around the interior walls; 4) a stylobate to support the weight of the arches.

Capernuam was the second site of the day. The second city in the religious triangle of cities, this place was the ministry home of Jesus Christ. Here most of the miracles performed by Jesus occurred. Well Pastor Mike Slayden brought some context to the complexity that is Capernuam. Here there were many religiously prideful but relationally empty. Because Jesus does not offer religion but relationship with him. The group toured a massive synagogue where Jesus delivered messages to the people of Capernuam. Here at Capernuam there also was the site of Peter the Apostleʼs home.

Capernaum

Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of his ministry: “Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum” (Matt 4:13).

Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen living in the village. Matthew the tax collector also dwelt here.

Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith.

The group then traveled to Tabgha where Well Pastor Mark Snee spoke on the story of the resurrected Jesus returning to his disciples. There was little time spent at this sight but the group enjoyed a wonderful view of the Sea of Galilee.

Site number four was the Mount of Beatitudes. Here Pastor Snee delivered another message on the greatest message spoken by the greatest speaker in history. The sermon on the mount.

The last site of the day was Mount Arbel. Here the group got the most beautiful view of the Galilee. Pastor Brad Bell brought a message on the Christian life of prayer. What does it look like to pray with a wholly devoted heart to God. Time was given to the group to find a spot on the cliff area and have a time of separate prayer. Little did the group know something spectacular was up next.

The last part of the day was baptism. Seven group members got baptized for the first time in the Sea of Galilee. They shared there testimonies got baptized and got a Well style celebration. It truly was something incredible.
