Day 02 - Into the Wilderness: Petra, Wadi Rum

Today we enjoyed a wonderful hotel breakfast with a gorgeous panoramic view in early morning daylight. Then we left for Petra and began our walk. It was very cool and pleasant in the narrow passageways. As our guide gave us history lessons, nearly every step of the way was accompanied by a light breeze to keep us cool.

We walked on an ancient Roman roadway and climbed sandstone steps. I rode a camel at the Treasury. We took a group picture in front of it as well. Our friend pointed out the minerals in the different layers of sandstone. One the off-road trail, we visited a cave with multi-colored stripes everywhere. We took in beautiful views of the theater and tombs. We all rode donkeys, mules or ponies back up the hill to the bus. Then we enjoyed a delicious lunch buffet at “My Mom’s Recipe” Restaurant.

After lunch, we headed south to the spectacular Wadi Rum. We got our tent keys to enjoy a night of glamping. Then we headed out for a jeep ride to admire the sunset and look at sites along the way.

We listened to Randy give a lesson on hospitality in Gen 18. This was  the story of Lot and how he became a respected leader by not fighting over the range. We should all reach out to people not just in our own community, but even strangers. Then we enjoyed a special moment before dinner when they unveiled our feast of lamb and chicken that was all cooked underground. It takes 3 hours to cook (steam).

After that many of us went stargazing. Goodnight from Jordan!
