On This Rock

This morning we woke up next Sea of Galilee. Today our theme was the the Lord is our Living God (El Chay). First, we traveled to Katzrin. Here we “time traveled” to an ancient Roman city. A highlight was crushing grapes with our feet and making grape juice. At Tel Dan, we learned about the tribe of Dan. Their disobedience with idol worship and not following God’s word resulted in them being the first tribe wiped out by the Assyrians. At Caesarea Philippi we saw how the Romans worship multiple god like Augustus, Pan, and Zeus. Jesus visited Caesarea Philippi and declared in Matthew 16: “on this rock I will build my church and the Gates of Hades will not overcome it. Pagan worshipers believed that Pan resided in a cave that lead directly to the Gates of Hades. At the top of Mount Bental, we were able to see an large part of Israel and Syria. The coffee and ice cream were a sweet treat after a hot day! We are looking forward to learning more about how Jesus lived and did his ministry around Galilee.

Caesarea Philippi

This abundant water supply has made the area very fertile and attractive for religious worship. Numerous temples were built at this city in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
