Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today we started out for the City of David. We were able to see the city walls as well as many archeological sites. The people of Israel are very enthusiastic to excavate sites to discover important information about the city and land. We saw the newly discovered Pool of Shiloah (Siloam) where Jesus saw and gave sight to the blind man on the Sabbath. We sat on the steps leading to the southern gates of the City of David. A new discovery is a 900 steps stairway, 150 ft. wide that led from the southern gates to the Shiloam pool. Some in our group walked through the very narrow passage of the Canaanite tunnel under the City of David while others WADED through the Hezekiah tunnel.
A 1750-foot (530m) tunnel carved during the reign of Hezekiah to bring water from one side of the city to the other, Hezekiah’s Tunnel together with the 6th c. tunnel of Euphalios in Greece are considered the greatest works of water engineering technology in the pre-Classical period. Had it followed a straight line, the length would have been 1070 ft (335m) or 40% shorter.
As a group we participated in a "dipping lunch" where we each had a delicious Jerusalem bagel. We sat in our "family group" and dipped our bread into a variety of yummy foods like hummus, date honey, yogurt, and olive oil. After lunch we set out to experience the Holo‐ caust museum. It was quite somber but an important reminder that we cannot stop teaching history to each generation. Our group was very blessed today!
