Day 08 - Mars Hill, Acropolis, Acropolis Museum

Kalimera from Greece!

Today was our first full day in the city of Athens. We learned that here is where 4.5 million of the 10 million Greeks in the country live.

Marla kicked off the morning with our daily devotional before we headed out to visit the Acropolis, or top of the city/safe place. From the top of the hill, we saw the Temple of Zeus (the largest temple ever built in Greece), walked up to the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena. After walking through the Ancient Greek ruins, we had the opportunity to enjoy some cooler AC as we toured the Acropolis Museum.

After a delicious authentic Greek lunch of tomatoes and cucumbers and pita and kebabs, we followed the steps of Paul as we walked on Mars Hill, a bare marble hill next to the Acropolis.  It was on this hill where Paul addressed the people of Athens and introduced them to the God of the altar dedicated to “the an unknown god” mentioned in Acts. Together we read this passage of scripture in Acts 17:16-33 before hiking up the hill.

We ended our first day with over 10,000 steps and a little bit of shopping before we head to Corinth tomorrow.
