Hello from Day 7!
Saying goodbye to Turkey was bittersweet, I think, for all of us. We are all personally mourning our departure in our own way, but collectively encouraged that the birth and history of Christianity is still so alive and present there. What early Christians had to overcome while still holding fast to their faith in the midst of so much persecution humbles me. We’re not done yet. 98% of the country of Turkey remains Muslim. Our task continues to be to spread Jesus wherever we go.
and now… Kalosorisma to Greece!
The sun is shining, the mountains are mountaning, the sky is clear, the day warm. It’s 4pm and we’re on our way to the hotel, The President, where we’ll be for the remainder of our trip.
Our first stop in Athens on this travel day was the ancient, all-white marble Panathenaic Stadium. Everyone knows by now, group pictures are a must! 😂
From the bus, we were pointed to the Tower of Athens, the tallest building in the city, though Athens typically does not allow for tall buildings to avoid hiding the view of the Acropolis and Parthenon. We also drove past the US Embassy, the Greek Parliament building (which used to be the castle of the king!), the Gate of Hadrian that leads to the Temple of Zeus and saw the Parthenon from afar.
We’re excited to see what God wants us to learn the next two days!
