What the Lord has for us today

‘We will see what the Lord has for us today’....Ronan our tour guide.

There were storms on the horizon, as we drove to our first site. Rain is so sparse here that it is only rainy 5 DAYS a year. When it does rain, flash floods are common and dangerous.

Fortunately the Lord allowed us to keep to or schedule; although throughout the day we were reminded of who was in charge of the weather!

Today’s teaching and visits centered around going back to the beginning, the belief in God and remembering the Lord.

We found ourselves in Ein Gedi, the wilderness area where David wrote Psalms while taking refuge and hiding from King Saul who was looking to kill him. We sat by the waters and read Psalms 1, 42, and 63. In short, we need to be like trees with their roots planted by the living water. To survive in the dessert, or in this world, we need to be close the the living water, the Lord.

Next we found ourselves in Qumran, the location of where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947. We learned a lot about the more recent history of the State of Israel and how the United Nations had gone to the Jewish and Arab people in this region after World War II to decide who the land belonged to.

The Jewish people stated it was the promise land given to them by God in the Bible. The Arab people said the Bible was simply a copy of the Quran because there was little proof and the land belonged to them.

Test The Lord, and he will show his power. Shortly after, 3 Muslims found 7 scrolls with the 66 chapters of the book of Isaiah proving the contents of the Bible. Not knowing what they were they sold it for a minimal amount of money, about $28 and went on their way. Word got to different scholars who provided more research, and more proof was had for the not only the existence but the reliability of the contents in the Bible.

More excavation was completed and 200 more scrolls were found in nearby caves of Qumran, of the Old Testament books.

We ended our journey at the Lower River Jordan, the site where it is believed the people of Moses crossed into the promise land, Elijah crossed to go back to the beginning to die, and where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. We witnessed baptisms in progress and saw the ‘mighty river Jordan’.

We got a bonus site at the end of the trip to the City of Jericho. But we did not see the wall of Jericho, because it came down a long time ago. We did see the road to Jerusalem where Jesus would have walked and the wilderness area where he was tempted by the devil for 40 days.

Being able to ‘see’ the places of the Bible provides such enlightenment and understanding that it is almost overwhelming.

I highly encourage each person reading the blog to sit and listen to all the stories of your loved ones when they come home, and to see the living pictures of the Bible. It is a history we must pass on.
