Day 03 - Shabbat in Israel

Our apologies for not posting yesterday. We had a change of plans. We were on our way into the Negev desert and encountered a roadblock. Apparently there was an accident, and no vehicles were allowed through. So our trip leaders decided to observe the Jewish Shabbat (day of rest) a day earlier than normal, and do the trip into the Negev desert today. So… we returned to our hotel, and David Nekrutman, an Israeli friend of the Wierda‘s, taught us about Shabbat and showed us a Torah scroll. After the teaching time, we were released to enjoy Shabbat on Israeli soil. Some of us spent the day resting and napping and catching up from residual Jetlag. While others took to the salty waters of the Dead Sea. It was a very special and needed day of rest, and a beautiful reminder of the divine pattern of work and rest that we find in the scriptures.
