Just like the blind man

Today is day 8 and we are in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. We find ourselves saddened that we only have 1 more day with feet on the ground here in Israel. We are now reminded that we must be feet on the ground for the Gospel anywhere God places us.

We started at the Western Wall today. Unfortunately the Temple Mount was closed. People come from all over to pray at the Western Wall because it’s believed to be the closest you can get to the Holiest of Holy’s. We had a chance to pray at the wall and when we approached it, there were thousands of small prayer notes that people have left shoved in the wall anywhere that they can find a crack in hopes of their prayer being answered. It was a very unique experience. Very different. One that we will never forget. We are so grateful for everything our eyes have seen and everything our hearts have learned.

We then went to the Upper Room and to where they believe King David’s tomb is. We were able to see a dungeon that they think Jesus was taken to and we were near where Peter denied Christ 3 times. Near the dungeon, we went down into a room and closed our eyes while Pastor Brian read Psalm 88. Its hard to process the emotion of being so grateful to be so close to where Jesus was, yet so broken by sadness for our Savior and His great suffering for us.

Hezekiah’s Tunnel in the City of David was so amazing. We walked under the city in a chiseled tunnel that had a crisp, refreshing spring running on your feet. They would go in these tunnels when enemies would attack. Close to that we saw the Pool of Siloam where Jesus gave the blind man site. The blind man went back and told all his story of how Jesus healed him. We need to all tell our Jesus story to everyone we know just like the blind man did.

Next up was Herodium. This was one of many of King Herod’s palaces and also close to where Jesus was born. Most of us know King Herod as the one who killed all the male babies 2 and under when Jesus was born, but he was also a master builder, VERY paranoid, and wanted the whole world to know there was a Herod. His palace was on the tallest mountain in Bethlehem. HE ALSO BUILT THE MOUNTAIN THE PALACE WAS ON.... that’s nuts! The water supply was of great shortage for the people, yet Herod had a massive fresh water swimming pool. Herod is from the bloodline of Esau.
Our last stop was to the Church of Nativity. The detail and beauty was stunning. There were many grand pillars, gold plated mosaics, wooden ceilings, and magnificent mosaic flooring. This is the oldest church in Bethlehem, built in 330 AD. At the Church of Nativity, we walked down into the cave that they believe Jesus was born in. That was emotional.

We are heading back to the hotel to fill our hungry bellies with some amazing food. We are grateful for that. We are grateful for today. We look forward to tomorrow’s teachings. Jesus be glorified!
