Today it was up early and off the the Island of Crete and the Palace of Knossos. It is the oldest site of ruins we have visited. It's thought that it was occupied as far back as 6,000 be.
The palace we visited was built around 1900 bc by the Minoan People who came to Crete around 2500 bc. Later they were conquered by the Miceans whom we know as the ancient Philistines. The apostle Paul visited Crete three times. First in a missionary journey with Titus and then as a prisoner on his way to Rome. And finally back with Titus after he was released from prison to set Titus up as the first pastor of Crete. Emphasis was discipleship in a depraved culture. The Challenge was to be discipling others. Cool definition of that was, "Walking close enough to someone that you can see the good and bad and have the courage to point it out." Accountability and obedience to the Word of God.
Santorini was an amazing stop. The white washed buildings and blue topped domes were beautiful. Sailing up to the towering cliffs was mesmerizing. From a distance I thought the cliffs were snow capped. Fun time was had by all sightseeing, shopping and of course taking lots of pictures. The trip down off the cliffs, for many of us was an adventure. A serpentine path of 600 steps shared with dozens of donkeys and their intestinal gifts.
