The Day of Change

The best way to describe today, in one word, would be change. Changing from land to sea, from Turkey to Greece, from our tour guide Ozan to a new guide Yannis and from raw, preserved ruins to decorative ornate attractions.

These past few days, we have been treading through ruins that have been bare and authentic. Opening up the Word and diving into text that unfolded right beneath our feet. But today we observed a completely different adaption of biblical history. Where the focus was more about the place and the holiness of the structure than the power of the message that had and would be delivered from that place.

Today, after embarking on our ship, our first stop was the island of Patmos. Patmos is a small island on the Mediterranean Sea in Greece where the Apostle John was exiled to and where he wrote the book of Revelation. To see the cave in which John was in, turned into a spaced filled with possessions to attract tourism made us appreciate the simplicity of the un-enhanced ruins we have explored these past few days. This change for many of us was interesting but also sent a stirring in our hearts about the fact that these past few days we have been seeing how the Gospel has spread like wildfire without a church location or wealth and there we stood in a cave covered in gold and possessions. The same location where John wrote to the seven churches in Revelation and specifically wrote to Ephesus about their love of wealth and here we stand in the same cave surrounded by what feels like the same thing John wrote against.

As many of us are continuing to process this amazing opportunity, please pray God would open our hearts and minds as we continue on these next few days.
