Contrasts

Today we walked the Via Dolorosa, the road of pain that our Lord Jesus took on His way to the cross. Along this journey I was reminded of the many "contrasts" that we have seen these past two weeks between faith in God and other things of this world. So what do we put in place of our faith in God?

• Fortified cities (including Jerusalem) that we have seen built, destroyed, and rebuilt, only to be destroyed again.
• Multi-culturalism or even multiple divisions within the same religion which tempt us to trust in the patterns of the world and can lead to unrighteousness
• Religion itself, in the Law, a particular place, or even a beautifully decorated building that distract us from what really matters...
• The faith we have in one God, one Lord Jesus Christ who chose originally to hang out with us in a tent in the desert and now chooses not a fortified city, not things of this world, not even a beautifully ornate building to reside, but rather chooses as His temple the hearts of those who have faith.

Our day ended at the Holocaust Museum, a somber reminder of how far from God humanity can be and what happens as a result. I was reminded of John 10:10 "the thief comes only to seal, and kill, and destroy, I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

My prayer for those on this trip along with those reading about our journey is that we remember, have faith, and have abundant life.
