From a Child's Perspective

We woke up today in Petra in Jordan. Petra is made up of sandstones. They carved their homes and tombs into the sandstone.

In our morning devotion we learned that to change your position can make God bigger. Blessing God without compromising by changing your position (bending the knee).

We got to see a herd of camels along the side of the road.

We saw a herd of sheep and goats with baby lambs, and we got to hold them. We learned that to be a good shepherd you need to bond with the sheep. A bad shepherd sees the sheep simply as a way to make a living. Jesus is the “Boss” lamb and God is the Shepherd.

We got to see one of Herod the Great’s palaces where John the Baptist was held prisoner and beheaded. Since we had driven down from the Galilee area, we were able to see the distance John’s disciples had to run to ask Jesus if he was the “coming one” and then run back to John with Jesus’ reply. It was a really long way on foot.

We also had an opportunity to visit a cave. A cave that was a great representation of a shepherds stable. There we were told the Christmas story and made some observations about it. The shepherds knew Marry was pregnant so they let her use the stable, that is how they knew which stable to find the baby in when the angles told them about Jesus’ birth. We had always pictured it more like a barn and not a cave.

The land here in Jordan was a great addition to our trip into Israel and will not be forgotten!
