Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
As we continue following Paul’s steps, today we head to Corinth, Greece. David started the day sharing his reflection on how God appointed Paul, utilizing his passion, brilliance, wisdom and love, to spread the gospel message to a diverse community.
We made a quick photo op stop at the canal of Corinth. It took 11 years to build and was completed in 1892. It is an important isthmus to connect two major bodies of water significant to trade. We then proceeded into the city.
Corinth is a tale of two cities, first under Greek influence which was completely destroyed and later rebuilt by Roman influence because of its great location, access to waterways and trade opportunities. This brought people of different cultures making it an ancient boomtown. It became the 3rd largest city with much wealth. With this affluence came opulence, indulgence and misplaced priorities; putting things of this world ahead of our love for God. People sought a word from the god of Apollo and other gods but it was futile. The only Word of value is scripture from our one true God. Paul reminds us of the importance of love ahead of anything.
Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 13 “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
Brad spoke on Paul’s efforts to teach the Corinthians of the evil of sexual immorality that was rampant here. “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not be deceived…. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God.” (1Cor 6: 9-20)
After a wonderful lunch we went to Giannikos Winery where we were able to relax, taste wines and learn about wine making in Greece. A great end to a great outing.
