Reflecting on the past can often give us valuable insights into our present. This GTI trip provides a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in ancient cultures that continue to shape key aspects of our faith today. Our journey began in Sardis, a site that offered profound lessons. As we studied the succession of kingdoms that once ruled and ultimately fell, we were reminded of the importance of living for the One who reigns eternally. The decline of these kingdoms, as they grew complacent and neglected their defenses, serves as a powerful metaphor for our spiritual lives. What influences are we allowing to quietly infiltrate, gradually drawing us away from God?
The ruins of Sardis provided a glimpse into the past, where diverse cultures converged, and a first-century road paved the way for the Gospel to be carried to the farthest corners of the world.
At the unexcavated site of Colossae, we stood atop the tel as our guide Jerrell passionately recited the entire book of Colossians. It was a moving moment for our group, as Paul's words, originally written to the early Christians, resonated just as powerfully with us today.
Though it’s only day two of our journey, we have already learned so much, and we eagerly anticipate what more lies ahead as we continue this exploration.
