Day Six: Walking in the Steps of Our Rabbi

Dallas Willard once said, “A disciple is someone who is learning to live their life as if Jesus were living His life through them.” That is the heart of today: discipleship, and the call of Christ.

On the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus called His first disciples. He invited them to follow Him, to watch Him, to learn from Him, to spend time with Him, so that they might become like Him and then go and do the things He did. This is the essence of discipleship: be with the Teacher, learn from the Teacher, become like the Teacher, do what the Teacher does, and then carry His way into the world.

We walked in His steps today. In Capernaum, where He called fishermen from their nets and began teaching, healing, and working miracles. On the heights of Mount Arbel, where we glimpsed the sweeping roads and valleys where the Gospel began to spread. At Tabgha, where loaves and fish multiplied in His hands. On the Mount of Beatitudes, where He taught a new way to live. And out on the Sea of Galilee itself, where storms were stilled and faith was tested.

At each place, we were reminded of His rhythms: ministry and solitude, work and rest, doing and being. The same Spirit who empowered Him now sustains us, shaping our lives into His likeness. Jesus modeled a new way to be human, and as we walk in the steps of our Rabbi, we too are being transformed.

Tomorrow, we turn our faces upward toward the city of the great King, Jerusalem.

“Discipleship is not about mastering certain practices but about being mastered by the One we follow.” – Eugene Peterson
