Experiencing Caesarea Phillipi
Jesus brought His disciples to Caesarea Phillipi, a center of pagan worship and human sacrifice. It was also the source of a huge, deep spring known as the “Gates of Hell.” You can imagine the disciples whispering, “No way. No Jew would go there.” In this setting, Jesus tested them by asking, “who do people say the people say the son of man is?” Matthew 16:13
They responded with “Shabbat School” answers like, John the Baptist, Elijah… Sooo…
“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” “Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16: 15-16
It dawned on Peter that Jesus the Son of God and the Messiah. Jesus responded, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18
Do you see it? Jesus stated, “The Gates of Hell will not prevail, at “ The Gates of Hell.”
But who do “YOU” say that I am?
We also went to Katzrin village and experienced first century life in Israel. The brave ones stepped into the wine pit to press grapes into wine, with bare feet. The not-so-brave ones baked bread over the fire.
Weather report. 104’ on the Sea of Galilee with a pleasant breezy 88’ on the Golan Heights.
