Day 04 - Eisenach, Coburg

Today began with a walk around Eisenach.  As we sat at the base of a statue of Marty we learned the fourth question of the Reformation as we studied Galatians 3: what’s next? Marty preached a message of freedom in Christ, however, some took it to mean freedom for freedom’s sake and not freedom with a higher authority.  As we listened to the church bells ring, we discussed how a Christian is someone who is subject to no one yet he still makes himself a slave to all.  We are completely free to love and serve all.  We visited both the Luther House, which is a museum to Marty’s Bible, and St. George’s church, which is where Johann Sebastian Bach (“Bach”) was baptized.  As mentioned in a previous post, Marty rewrote words to German drinking/folk songs as a way to teach the Bible to folks who couldn’t read or write.  Bach did not like that they were singing hymns to drinking songs, so he rewrote music to fit Marty’s song lyrics.

This afternoon we toured Coburg Castle on our own and we had an opportunity to walk into the center of town from our hotel before dinner.  Since it is Sunday our day was a little more relaxed and laid back, but we still walked 5.3 miles.
