Day 10 - Finishing in Jordan: Jerash

Today was our last day in Jordan. We enjoyed breakfast and a leisurely morning at the Dead Sea hotel. At 10am, we boarded the bus and had a 20 minute drive to Tel el-Hammam, a Middle Bronze Age tel in the eastern Jordan valley that is a possible site for the ancient city of Sodom (as in Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19-21).

Though we were unable to walk up on the tel, we parked the bus in view of it. Rich Liverance, who had recently been part of an excavation project at the site, described the tel and the biblical and archeological reasons that it may in fact be Sodom.

We then drove through the outskirts of Amman to Jerash. We stopped at the Artemis Restaurant where local bakers make taboon bread in an outdoor oven. We had a delicious buffet lunch while enjoying the beautiful view from the restaurant balcony.

Before touring Jerash, stopped at the Jabbok River where Jonathan gave a message on wrestling with God. This site was where Jacobs wrestled with the Lord before receiving his new name, Israel in Genesis 32:22-32.

For our last site in Jordan, our guide Mohannad gave us a tour of the ancient Greco-Roman city of Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. We ended the tour seated in the ancient Roman theater. Rich Liverance shared some thoughts on the various ancient kingdoms we had seen in both Egypt and Jordan and looked at them in the light of Christ and His coming Kingdom. We then overnighted in Amman to rest before an early morning departure back home.

Thanks for following us as we followed the Footsteps of Moses!
