Jordan

Good evening from Jordan! What a full but amazing day we have had! We had an early start for our last morning in Egypt, departing after breakfast for the charter flight at the Aswan airport. We arrived in Aquaba, Jordan and headed directly to lunch. We had delicious lamb, chicken and beef kabobs with rice, salad and pita bread (we are enjoying this healthy and flavorful Mediterranean diet). As we left our lunch spot, we could look into the distance and see the Red Sea.

We boarded the buses again and drove a little over an hour into the desert to Sun City camp. Sun City is a “glamping” property in Wadi Rum that has bungalows and domes for sleeping. We got settled in our rooms then met shortly after for our desert jeep rides! The scenery was simply breathtaking as we drove through the red-hued sand. Our guide, Mohanned, had us stop at a true Bedouin (nomad) family home and introduced us to the patriarch of the family. We then continued on to a special rock formation where we climbed and watched the sunset!

A scrumptious meal this evening involved a traditional Bedouin supper called “Zarb” which is roasted underground on a metal rack covered with lots of foil and a lid for steaming. The lengthy buffet tables offered numerous salads, breads, meats, vegetables and desserts. We keep joking with each other saying, “All we do is eat!”

Time for bed as we must get up early and head to a very special site called PETRA! Masa al khair! (goodnight in Arabic)
