Ruins from an ancient city

Day 6 is in the books! Today was a bit different for our group. For the first time since we started the trip, we didn’t have an intense hike today! The Lord blessed us with a lighter schedule and seeing as how it was over 100 degrees here, we couldn’t be more thankful. We started the day visiting ruins from an ancient city that was greatly influenced by Greco-Roman culture. As Josh said, it was a little bit of Rome in Israel. Seeing the infrastructure and design that was used in this city was incredible, especially considering it dated back to 63 BC! Though the city was ruined by a natural disaster quite a while ago, most of the columns and structure still remain. It was a great reminder to not put our hope in the things of our world or our culture, but in God alone. Next, we visited a site right off the Sea of Galilee where it’s very likely Jesus cast out demons from the possessed man in Mark 5. One of our favorite parts of this whole trip has been listening to Josh teach. He has been able to bring perspective to each passage we’ve read (and we’ve read a LOT of scripture). Today, Josh encouraged us to share our story with the world as the man from Mark 5 did after Jesus healed him. If we share them, our stories have the power to change the culture.

The day ended sweetly as we got to swim in the Sea of Galilee for a couple of hours with our group. It was an awesome time of fellowship, fun, and relief from the HEAT! We can now say that we’ve swam in the waters where Jesus walked, calmed the storm, and called His disciples… how crazy is that?!

Some of our favorite moments from today include eating Israeli pizza for lunch (which was delicious, by the way), meeting the son of our favorite tour guide, Ronan, watching 4 group members sing Respect by Aretha Franklin in the middle of an ancient bathroom built by the Romans, Watching Hal and Tenley race in the Sea of Galilee and of course forcing Ronan to play Spicy Uno with us.
