Day One in Antalya: Walking Through History

Today we explored the incredible city of Antalya, a place overflowing with ancient history and significance. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were stepping into a region deeply rooted in the past—rich with stories, ruins, and reminders of civilizations long gone.

We began our morning with a walk through the heart of town to visit one of the main harbor ports. As we took in the view, we discussed the biblical and historical context of the area, especially its role in the New Testament. It helped us frame our understanding of the key figures who once passed through here—and why this port city was such a powerful center of influence in its time.

Our next stop was the Antalya Museum, and it truly blew us away. The collection is massive, with so many artifacts uncovered right here in the region. We spent time reflecting on the significance of the statues, sarcophagi, and relics—many of which were used as tools of power, influence, and even ancient propaganda. It sparked meaningful conversation about how easily we, too, are drawn to create false gods or idols—things we use to fill the space only God is meant to occupy.

One of the most moving experiences of the day was walking down a still-preserved Roman road. For a moment, we imagined what it would have felt like to travel these paths centuries ago, when the sounds, sights, and stories were very different—but the human heart was much the same.

We ended the day with a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean and a delicious dinner overlooking the sea. It was the perfect finish to an incredible start.
