Day 01 - Pergamum, Sardis

Early morning we departed for Pergamum and visited the Acropolis and Temple of Asklepios. In the afternoon we ventured to Sardis and visited one of the largest synagogues that played an important role in Jewish history BC. We also visited the temple of Artemis. Our tour guide Ozan is providing us history lessons dating back as far as 3000 BC to help us understand what life was like in these ancient lands. Teachings by Pastor Chad and Pastor Anthony gave us historical cultural context with respect to the language and phrases used in scripture to enrich its meaning. It was concluded that the challenges Christian’s face today are in many ways similar to the challenges Christians faced in the first century. As we reflected on the letters in revelations written to the churches of Pergamum and Sardis we were challenged to consider, “In what ways do we today resemble the first century churches?”.
