Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
We woke up this morning in our room/tent to a crystal clear morning in the middle of the Wadi Rum. The breakfast was great. I especially enjoyed the brewed black tea with sage. Delicious! Our amazing adventure this morning began at 7:30 when we hopped onto the back of 7 trucks and headed out into the desert. We had bench seats with cushions so we were very comfortable. What an amazing way to see the expanse of sand and jagged sandstone hills. Our first stop was at a lookout hill that gave us a panoramic view of the area.
We hiked up the sandy hill, took pictures and ran down. So fun! Loading back up, off we traveled to a true Bedouin homestead. The patriarch of the family has lived there all his life raising camels, goats and chickens. We noticed they had solar panels and light bulbs hanging. Who knows maybe they even had WIFI? One of the camels couldn’t stand up so some of the men in our group and the Bedouin men lifted the camel until it could stand on its own. Evidently camels can get stuck like that if they sit down wrong. Who knew? The patriarch of the family wanted to prepare tea for all of us (all 46 of us!).
They are known for their hospitality. We were not able to accept his generous offer today. However what a beautiful example of sharing and hospitality. The importance of hospitality is a theme for me on this trip. Our day continued driving to Aqaba. This is the only Sea port in Jordan. Beautiful community on the Red Sea. You can see the borders of 4 countries from here. We have finished the day on the Israeli side at the Dead Sea. A very full and satisfying day.
