Behind a mask

Today we moved from the Dead Sea across to Jerusalem. On the way, we stopped at Beit She'An. What an amazing view - seeing Mt. Gilboa and the valley. There were 19 civilizations that built on Beit She'An over time. This area was the location where Saul took his life in battle and his body was brought and put on display at Beit She'An. Beside this Tel is the ruins of Scitopolis. The second largest city of the ancient decapolis. The size and beauty of the architecture is amazing. Politics, entertainment, commerce, education, philosophy all took place here. We moved to Mt. Carmel but, due to rain, we unable to go to the site. We then went to Caesarea. Learned about the ancient city and what Herods vision was to make this a great place of commerce.

Beth Shean

Located 17 miles (27 km) south of the Sea of Galilee, Beth Shean is situated at the strategic junction of the Harod and Jordan Valleys. The fertility of the land and the abundance of water led the Jewish sages to say, “If the Garden of Eden is in the land of Israel, then its gate is Beth Shean.” It is no surprise then that the site has been almost continuously settled from the Chalcolithic period to the present.

My take-a-ways from today ..... hypocrite comes from the theatrical word used for the actors 'hypocarate' meaning performing behind a mask. How many times do we do exactly that? The other thing that has stuck with me is while we had our teaching in Mt. Carmel area there was a question that Elijah asked the Israelites living under King Ahab. In essence - How long will you HESITATE between two Gods? How often do we HESITATE between what God has asked us to do and doing something of our own choosing?
