Day 07 - Western Coast: Pergamum, Weaving Center

What a day! 

Our adventures began at the Asclepius of Pergamum.  The Asclepius was one of the premier medical facilities of the ancient world and people came from every corner of the known planet to find healing in this place.  After touring the site with our guide Ozan, we had a very interesting discussion about healing and a passage in 1 Corinthians.

After leaving the Asclepius we journeyed to the weaving center where we were treated to a demonstration of the art of making a rug.  From the tools and supplies required to meeting the weavers themselves, we had a wonderful time together standing in awe of what these talented artists have created.  Many of us will be returning home with authentic Turkish rugs which will add beauty to our homes.

Next we stopped at the Turkish delight shop near Ephesus.  We got to meet Ozan’s son who works at the shop as well as sample the delicious, fresh, Turkish delight they have.  

Tomorrow we will go to three more sites and hopefully be able to go our evening cruise in the Aegean (we had to postpone today because of high winds).
