Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Wow…Israel has truly been UNreal. The things that we have seen are mind-blowing and life changing. And just to think that we still have a week! The days have been long and hot as we have been traveling and hiking through the desert. It doesn’t hurt to end a long day with a refreshing swim in the Sea of Galilee before our traditional Friday night Shabat dinner!
Today we stopped for a quick hike through where David was hiding from Saul in 1 Samuel (the waterfalls were breathtaking). The group was able see the 12 caves where scrolls were found that prove over and over again the accuracy of scripture. After lunch in Jericho, we were led to the Jordan River, which isn’t as extravagant or massive as I was expecting! As it was around 100 degrees in the desert, we were all excited to be getting back to our hotels for dinner.
En Gedi is the largest oasis along the western shore of the Dead Sea. The springs here have allowed nearly continuous inhabitation of the site since the Chalcolithic period. The area was allotted to the tribe of Judah, and was famous in the time of Solomon (Josh 15:62). Today the Israeli kibbutz of En Gedi sits along the southern bank of the Nahal Arugot.
This experience has been such a blessing for Jake and I. Jake has been able to lead the group in worship which has been truly, truly amazing and a once in a life time opportunity. People say that being in the Holy Land brings scripture to life-but today made it all so real for me. As scripture is being read aloud, I was able to look around and see the landscape and animals that were being read about in the bible! Wow! We are so excited for the rest of the trip…stay tuned.
Love,
Jake and Anna Goldberg
The “City of Palms” spreads out on the west side of the Jordan River at 825 feet below sea level. In Jesus’ day a new center had been constructed on the wadi banks in the foreground by the Hasmonean rulers and Herod the Great.
