Day 04 - Aphrodisias, Turkish Pottery Shop

Today we visited the ancient city of Aphrodisias. Its city gate and temple were amazing along with its stadium.  We discussed Hebrews 12:1-2. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT

The challenge given us was to throw off things that trip us up and keep our eyes on Jesus, enduring faithfully until the end.  We then had a race of some of the guys on the trip! They were good sports!

This afternoon we had the opportunity to visit the “Potter’s House” with a live demonstration of how to make a piece of pottery with quartz. In the market we can encounter many kinds of pottery and we learned that this business has been in the same family for seven generations.

The potter took the clay in his hands together with a little bit of water to begin to give it shape. The water is like the Word of God. Our Father uses it to teach us and transform us each day into His image to be the work of art He planned us to be from before the foundation of the world.

Every design of the pottery is a different piece depending on: size, use, shape, and color. And the pieces that are made with a better material, they can glow in the middle of the darkness.

Let us be that piece of clay, that transmits the light of JESUS, in the middle of this dark and lost world.
