Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today was a day of gaining perspective. Much like every day, really, as we travel to new places and see new things that help us to gain better understanding for the Word and character of God. Our new perspective for today, however, took us up around 1800 ft to the very top of Mount Carmel. Yes, you heard me — today, we climbed a mountain.
1 Kings 18 tells us that this was the very same climb that Elijah the prophet made more than once as he fervently obeyed God’s call for his life. Even when faced with countless situations that seemed impossible on his own, Elijah remained persistent and passionate about bringing all glory to God, so that all would know that our Lord ALONE is God and there are none beside Him.
From the top of Mount Carmel, we took the bus to a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant and had our fill of falafel, hummus, fresh olives and all the yummy goodness.
With full stomachs, we trekked once more. At Mount Precipice, we overlooked the city of Nazareth and the surrounding countrysides. We reflected on the stories that surrounded us; each hilltop, valley, and field carrying great Biblical significance. We cherished the thought from Staci that Jesus, having grown up in this very same land, would have been surrounded with stories. Stories of God’s faithfulness through His people, His redemption and care for the oppressed, and so much more. Atop Mount Precipice, we gained even more perspective.
As we traveled on, we wondered together about the life of Jesus throughout His lost years. We talked about the incredible importance of “avad” (to work/to serve/to worship) that Jesus embodied so well throughout His ministry. We wondered how we might practice this same sort of “avad” no matter where the Lord takes us.
Tomorrow, we travel with confidence that we will gain even more perspective. No matter the length or height of our journey, as we seek to know the character and love of our Abba, He will meet us right where we are.
