Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today started and ended through the tunnels of Jerusalem. Descending into the City of David, we waded through the waters of Hezekiah’s Tunnel—an engineering phenomenon that transported spring water over 1,750 feet into the city leading to the Pool of Siloam. Learning about the Jewish festival Sukkot, provided new hindsight to the intentionality of God revealing himself to his people.
With wet feet from Hezekial’s Tunnel, we headed towards the temple on the south stairs where Jesus walked. We weaved and ducked through another tight archeological tunnel to get there. At the temple, Ben preached about the history of the complexity of building the temple, and how the Spirit of God is no longer in the stones, but He dwells in us, His house of living stones. On the south wall, Ben continued with preaching about Pentecost in Acts 2 and the beginning of the Christian church. It was here that God drew people from all the nations to propel the gospel to the world.
After a yummy corn pizza lunch, we threw on our modesty kits (leg coverings and hats) and headed to the Western Wall. Our hearts broke watching those of Judaism cry and pray out to God at the closest they can get to where they believe God dwells. It is beautiful and amazing how God dwells within us and no walls separate our faith.
We made a surprise visit to Ben and Stacie’s alma mater, Jerusalem University College. Resting in the beauty of their gardens and meeting former staff and friends was a treat. Talking to Rabbi Moshe (Mo-shay) was a highlight for our birthday queen, Gayle! We were some of the first to exit the campus using a historic military tunnel that was just recently discovered.
Our minds are full of amazement at Gods faithfulness and we will cherish our last day in Jerusalem tomorrow!
