Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today was the best yet! Waking up & looking out to the Sea of Galilee was something out of a dream.
We got into the bus at 7:15 to head off on our adventure. We stopped Capernaum (where Peter’s mother-in-law lived & Jesus performed many miracles) as well as Tabgha, where we were reminded how Jesus (post-resurrection) cooked some fish for his disciples & reinstates Peter after his denial.
Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of his ministry: “Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum” (Matt 4:13).
Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen living in the village. Matthew the tax collector also dwelt here.
Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith.
After lunch, we explored Mt. Arbel, which overlooks the Sea of Galilee. Jesus most likely retreated there to pray & to be alone with God (Matthew 14:22-23). I love that Jesus modeled these priorities & was personally reminded that they should be my priorities too.
We ended the day with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee sharing stories, dancing to music, & watching the sun set on Mt. Arbel. On the other side, we enjoyed a 1st century meal of a whole fish (complete with head and tail!) and warm bread. Tonight our hearts, souls & bellies are full as we retreat to our little cabins next to the sea.
Mount Arbel (Hebrew: הר ארבל, Har Arbel) is a mountain in The Lower Galilee near Tiberias in Israel, with high cliffs, views of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, trails to a cave-fortress, and ruins of an ancient synagogue. Mt. Arbel sits across from Mount Nitai; their cliffs were created as a result of the Jordan Rift Valley and the geological faults that produced the valleys.
