Faithful to the call

The third day of our adventures in Galilee started off in a small town called Qatzrin. We donned first century clothing and got to experience a small part of what it would have been like to live two thousand years ago. We got a tour of the wheat field and the olive press, and then ground wheat flour and baked our own pita bread on a metal shield over a fire and tried it out with a variety of Israeli toppings.

Katzrin

The ancient Jewish farming village of Katzrin was built around a spring, which still flows. Although there were standing ruins on the site, archaeological excavations have increased the number of accessible ancient buildings. An ancient synagogue was discovered in 1967 and excavated between 1971 and 1984. Other parts of the village were excavated beginning in 1983. Some of the buildings have been reconstructed on their ancient foundations and furnished with replicas of household goods and tools

Then we travelled to Mount Bental, where we explored an underground bunker. After that we drove to the "gates of hell" (according to Jesus) at Caesarea Philippi and walked around looking at the idols carved into the rock.

Caesarea Philippi

This abundant water supply has made the area very fertile and attractive for religious worship. Numerous temples were built at this city in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Then we hiked along a beautiful waterfall and explored the land of Dan, where we got to enjoy the shade of the trees and see archaeological evidence from the time of Abraham: the gates of Dan. This afternoon, we had the incredible opportunity of seeing ten of our brothers and sisters get baptized in the Sea of Galilee, as the sun was setting behind them. Jill, Cori, Bethany Bramble, Josiah, Jake, Ethan, Winson, Melissa, and Clara were all prepped beforehand to make this incredible step of declaring Jesus Christ their Lord. At the last minute, the Holy Spirit moved in Kaitlyn to make the decision to join them. We praised the Lord together as this day ended in such amazing joy with those being faithful to the call of their Savior.

Tel Dan

On the northern frontier of the kingdom, Dan was particularly well fortified. This gatehouse was built in the ninth century BCE, probably by Ahab, and is part of a series of gateways discovered.
