A very special moment

We started off the day in the City of David, which is one of the older original parts of Jerusalem. We stood on the lookout and talked about David and Bathsheba. We then went into a theater and watched a short 3D presentation about the City of David.

From there we went to the Temple Mount. Which today is a Muslim site. We weren't able to go into any of the buildings but we sat on the mount and leaned about the history of the site. This is where the Dome if the Rock is, and there is also a mosque here. We then visited the Western Wall, out team got a chance to go down and pray at the wall. Was a very special moment.

Western Wall

The Western Wall is the most holy place accessible to the Jewish people because of Muslim control of the Temple Mount. Known in recent centuries as the “Wailing Wall,” this was built by Herod the Great as the retaining wall of the Temple Mount complex. The plaza was created as an area for prayer when Israel captured the Old City in 1967. At times tens of thousands of people gather here for prayer.

From here we visited Yad Veshem, which is Israel's monument to the victims of the holocaust. Our guide Ronan shared with us a lot about the Holocaust, and what it means for Jewish people. It was really neat to be here and visit the site.

Next up was a Beit Sahur, where we visited the Chapel of the Shepherd's Field. We also stopped here and filmed a special video message for this coming Sunday, so if you're reading this and you attend Bay Area Church...you won't want to miss it.

Our last stop if the day was Bethlehem. We visited the Church of the Nativity where it's believed Jesus was born. It was a full day for the team, and we only have one full day left here in Jerusalem before we head home. It's been such an amazing time for all of us!

Bethlehem

Biblical scholars believe Bethlehem, located in the "hill country" of Judah, may be the same as the Biblical Ephrath which means "fertile", as there is a reference to it in the Book of Micah as Bethlehem Ephratah.[17] The Bible also calls it Beth-Lehem Judah, and the New Testament describes it as the "City of David". It is first mentioned in the Bible as the place where the matriarch Rachel died and was buried "by the wayside" (Gen. 48:7). Rachel's Tomb, the traditional grave site, stands at the entrance to Bethlehem. According to the Book of Ruth, the valley to the east is where Ruth of Moab gleaned the fields and returned to town with Naomi. It was the home of Jesse, father of King David of Israel, and the site of David's anointment by the prophet Samuel. It was from the well of Bethlehem that three of his warriors brought him water when he was hiding in the cave of Adullam.
