Building Bridges

It was not an especially busy day today. Nathan and I spent some time putting supplies into bundles of 10, 40 or 50 depending upon the product, and helped pack up a couple of dollies for shipping to other parts of the hospital. Those are important parts of the ministry, but more important was the time spent in building relationships, hopefully relationships that will last many years (if the Lord tarries).

There are a couple of guys in the warehouse who play soccer, and our manager is a sports fan, who loves soccer. In my younger more foolish days I also played soccer, and so we have much in common.

Our manager watches a lot of movies. Since he loves soccer and movies I asked him if he had ever seen the movie The Third Half. It is a movie about a very bad soccer team in Macedonia that hires a Jewish coach just prior to the German invasion of Greece. The heroine is Jewish, and survives the holocaust because she marries one of the players on the team. The Jewish coach is able to turn the team around, and they become one of the elite teams of Europe.

Unknown to most, sadly including most Jews, is just how bad the holocaust was to the Greek Jews. There were almost no survivors. When I talked about the movie, the Lord seemed to open the door to talk about the holocaust, especially in Greece. Only one of the employees of the hospital knew anything about the holocaust in Greece.

I believe God used that discussion
to open doors for even further discussion, and I am praying that bridges are being built to talk more about the Bible.
