Our first day working at Kaplan Medical Center

Today was our first day working at Kaplan Medical Center located in Rehovot, Israel, with sixty-five beautiful acres of buildings going as far back as the early 1950s, to current renovations underway, as well as architectural plans and renderings of the new cardiac building slated for opening in 2017.

At the beginning of our first day we attended an orientation meeting with the Director of Marketing for Kaplan Medical Center, a man named Shai. Shai’s talk included a very informative slide presentation. Then we met and heard important security instructions from the Security Department’s spokesperson. Last, but not least, we met Dr. Carlos, the CEO of Kaplan Medical Center. Dr. Carlos is a sweet, charming man who made us feel so welcome. He explained the design of the new cardiac building. It was designed to depict the human heart valve and other intricate vessels. This cardiac building’s design is an amazing work to behold.

After the presentations, we were all outfitted with scrub uniforms appropriate for our various jobs. Following that, we received our work assignments and met our work managers. Our managers promptly directed us to our work areas and told us to gather our needed supplies. We then proceeded to work.

Marilyn, my teammate, and I were busy cleaning a seven-flight stairwell when all of a sudden a young woman came up to me with arms extended, grabbing me, giving me the biggest hug I have ever gotten, along with a kiss to each cheek! I was shocked and overwhelmed as she thanked us profusely. I asked, “Are you a doctor?”, as she was in uniform. She humbly said, “Oh, no, just a nurse.” I asked her name and how to spell. It is Orlett.

I am praying for Orlett. I am also thanking God for this encouraging, sweet meeting. God really blessed me greatly today by allowing me to meet Orlett. I am so grateful, and I hope and do pray Orlett and I meet again.
