The Story Begins!

We made it! After two flights, our team from The Bridge safely landed in Tel Aviv. There we met up with Ronan our tour guide and Egal our bus driver. Straight from the airport we headed out to the top of a Judean mountain called Har Adar. Ronan shared with us that it’s the site of a key radar installation during the six-day war. At the site there’s a monument that allowed us to get a perspective of the various locations that we will see in the next few days. One of the things that is so striking is how close everything really is. Most sites could have been reached in a day or two’s walk.

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv
The biblical town of Joppa is today known as Jaffa. This was the main port of the coast before the Israelis constructed the ports of Haifa and Ashdod. The modern city of Tel Aviv was founded on the outskirts of Jaffa in 1909 and today it encompasses the ancient city. Tel Aviv means “the Hill of Spring” and it is the same name as the city of a settlement in Babylon during the Exile (Ezek 3:15). Today the Tel Aviv area is the largest metropolitan area in Israel.

Tonight, our hotel is located near a town called Kiryat Ye’arim. Here was the location where the ark of the covenant came to rest when it was sent back to the Israelites from the Philistines. (1 Samuel 6:19-7:2) Sam Maier shared with us that the ark should have been placed in the tabernacle, but the story of Abinadab is the story of a man who was willing to submit his life and plans to God.

As we look ahead to the rest of the trip, we appreciate your prayers and feel them already. We’re excited for the next few days and can’t wait to see what God will do!

Blessings!

Kiriath-Jearim

The biblical city of Kiriath Jearim is best known for the house of Abinadab which held the Ark of the Covenant from the time of Samuel until the time of David (about 120 years). Kiriath Jearim was originally a Gibeonite city that fell within the tribal territory of Judah near the borders of Benjamin and Dan. The prophet Uriah, a contemporary of Jeremiah, was from Kiriath Jearim.
