Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Summary;
This morning we began our day on a boat that took us to the area around Capernaum, Christ’s headquarters for his ministry. During our travels on Saturday we hiked Mt. Arabel, visited the recently discovered ruins of 1st century Magdela, think Mary Magdalena, with its Synagog. In the afternoon, after a Falafal lunch, we arrived in Capernaum, where Jesus lived and taught. Richard and Matt taught us in Capernaum’s Synagog in the area where the Bible tells us Jeus taught. AMAZING! We ended our day with a bonfire on the beach on the Sea of Galilee. What a GREAT day!

How we ended up in Magdela… It started with reading a news article I found 2-months ago about a newly discovered archeological site where Mary Magdalene resided. I got excited about the potential to visit this new site and I sent an email inquiry to Richard Rohlfing, one of our leaders. Our 2 guides Richard and Matt have been giving cultural, as well as historical understanding to the many sites we’ve visited. I was pleasantly surprised, when Richard announced we were going to visit the Magdela Site while climbing down the Mt. Arbel trail on this hot Israeli afternoon. While visiting the site, I was introduced to Father John, who is in charge of the archeological dig. During our conversation I learned that Marilyn Copeland, a sister in faith from my home church who’s been instrumental in growing my understanding of God’s word, worked on the Magdela archeological dig for 3-years. It just goes to show you how small the world ready is and how wondrous the things God puts together for His glory.
Mount Arbel (Hebrew: הר ארבל, Har Arbel) is a mountain in The Lower Galilee near Tiberias in Israel, with high cliffs, views of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, trails to a cave-fortress, and ruins of an ancient synagogue. Mt. Arbel sits across from Mount Nitai; their cliffs were created as a result of the Jordan Rift Valley and the geological faults that produced the valleys.

It’s the home of Jesus. A place where he walked, taught and performed many of his miracles. Words can’t completely describe the experience of looking at the first century and fourth century synagogue or the remains of the ancient surrounding community. Or the spiritual experience of entering into historical architecture, God blessed our group with the sound of praises from Fujian’s tourist before we entered the synagogue and the tonal chants of Franciscan monks as we looked upon the remains of the ancient home where scholars believe Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law. Matt 8:14-15
The sound of praises, the Biblical teaching, the archeological site of an ancient synagogue and city, a statue of Peter, the rock that Jesus proclaimed to build his church on. Then at the shore of the Sea of Galilee, God blessed us with a glimpse of a bride and groom who were being photographed for their special Wedding Day. We are His beloved Song of Solomon 6:3.
Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of his ministry: “Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum” (Matt 4:13).
Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen living in the village. Matthew the tax collector also dwelt here.
Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith.
