Help support our friends in Israel in their time of need.
Today was a big day. After a hearty breakfast, we began with a devotional on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. We were encouraged to trust God’s ways, even when we don’t understand the plan. He strengthens us in the preparation…and we would need every ounce of that strength today. The mountain was waiting and its Creator was ready to speak. All that stood in the way was the ascent. But at the top was a great reward. We were reminded that the banner we hold high must be Jesus and seeking Him through prayer requires intentionality and at times, hard work. But it is worth it. He is worth it. We walked alongside new friends in the form of cows, sheep, and even a snake. Their presence demanded we step over their presents. And we envied their climbing prowess.
Mount Arbel (Hebrew: הר ארבל, Har Arbel) is a mountain in The Lower Galilee near Tiberias in Israel, with high cliffs, views of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, trails to a cave-fortress, and ruins of an ancient synagogue. Mt. Arbel sits across from Mount Nitai; their cliffs were created as a result of the Jordan Rift Valley and the geological faults that produced the valleys.
After the physical drain and spiritual filling, we grabbed falafel for lunch with an ice cream treat for dessert. Aside from Hershel and Joel nearly turning over the tables (not like Jesus), the meal gave us energy for the path ahead. Next, we followed the steps of Jesus where He called His disciples and spent much time in the triangle, just as Jesus did. We learned of first century community and rejoiced at the thought of the Groom coming for His bride. God is certainly moving in each heart and drawing us near to Him. We have been thoroughly challenged to follow Him, to abide, and turn outward to see a world in need of Jesus.
The team truly embodied that term today helping one another in each one’s time of need. Whether lending a helping hand, carrying one another’s pack, or celebrating small victories along the way, we took the opportunity to love one another. The day began with our Israeli guide dancing to “Eye of the Tiger” blaring on the bus stereo. The day ended with a meal together and coffee by the sea. While the physical wind calmed in the evening air, the Ruah (Holy Spirit wind) continues to stir. It is amazing how God has already used this time to change us.
We miss and pray for family and friends each day. You are in our hearts and we look forward to sharing our story with you all soon.
