Walking throughout Israel on our trip has been amazing to say the least and after spending time reading through the Old Testament and seeing our Bible come to life we finally get to see where Jesus walked…Jesus! Today we went to Nazareth, Megiddo, Mt. Carmel and Caesarea. We stood on a hill overlooking Nazareth, the place Jesus called home. In Megiddo we saw the impressive ruins under a tel of nearly 26 civilizations overlooking the Jezreel Valley where Jesus will return (and he’s not happy) at the start of the seven-year tribulation. We stood on top of Mt. Carmel where Elijah proved our God’s sovereignty and faithfulness over the prophets of Ba’al. We finished off the day seeing another one of Herrod’s creations at Ceserea on the Mediterranean Sea, and boy was it impressive. The apostle Paul was held in Herrod’s palace where he appealed to Caesar. This past week in Israel, and especially today, is bringing life into the Word. It’s not just a fictitious book we are reading with places and people that may have existed. We stood in Nazareth; we walked on the ruins in Megiddo; we hiked to Mt. Carmel and stood in one of the many extravagant palaces of Herrod. Our Bible is more alive than ever and we get to watch it play out in the place that Jesus called home.

Megiddo

From the earliest times (EB) to the earliest historical records of the area (Thutmose III) to the future (Revelation 16), Megiddo assumes a prominent role. This is largely owing to its strategic location astride the Megiddo Pass (Wadi Ara) and inside the busy Jezreel Valley.
