Giants

The first day was a full day on many levels. We adventured to 6 sites today including Gezer, Beth Shemesh, and the Valley of Elah where the shepherd boy David powerfully defeated the giant Goliath.

It was very powerful to me to stand above the valley in a recently discovered “city with 2 gates” that would most likely have been the place that the Israelites would have staged for the battle with the Philistines. I stood in that place and could see in my mind’s eye the giant coming out a taunting the Israelites. I then pictured the young shepherd boy, David confronting the giant in the confidence and strength of the Lord and his anointing to be future king.

In 1 Samuel 17:46 David says to Goliath “This day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and the beat of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” David threw a stone from the nearby stream and defeated the giant in front of him.

Those are very direct words describing David’s actions in a short time frame. David had the courage and strength of the Lord. He trusted that God would do what he said he would do.

I after picking up a smooth stone I went down to that valley and stood in that place and threw that stone at my giants. What an experience to bring defeat to my giants in that place.
