A moving and memorable experience

Early this morning we had hot chocolate cake. We have not only enjoyed dessert for breakfast each day, but we were also moved as we prayed at the Western Wall, made our way up the Via Dolorosa and were reminded of the hope we have because of the empty tomb.  Over the last 10 days, we were able to take a glimpse of several thousand years of Biblical history.  We walked were Jesus walked, and except for when the Pope was in Jerusalem, got in our air conditioned bus and drove to the next place Jesus walked.  More importantly than walking where Jesus walked, we were challenged to deepen our walk with Jesus Christ.  We saw the black and white words of the Scriptures jump from the pages and begin to turn into a full color motion picture.

For many of us the "Friends of Hume" trip was our first visit to Israel.  It was a moving and memorable experience.  As we board our plane heading west, let us not forget to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for our new friends in Israel.  May we not see the Scripture the same.  This Christmas, may we sing "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" with a new level of understanding and worship to the baby born in the manger. This Easter season, may we imagine what it must of been like to be Jesus as he sat on a donkey and heard the masses shout "hosanna".  May we be sobered to think about how the shouts of support turned into shouts of  "crucify him, crucify him". Jesus gave his life on the cross and was buried in the tomb.  Praise God, he rose from the grave!

From the Mt. of Olives, Jesus told his disciples to "be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth".  May we daily follow Christ's exhortation. One day, if people are still seated on the steps of the Mt. of Olives, they will see Jesus Christ return.  On that day, it will truly be good to be the King of Kings!

At Hume Lake Christian Camps, we are committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Thank you for joining us on the "Friends of Hume" Israel 2014 trip.  Friendships were formed, our faith strengthened, and our lives transformed. We hope to continue to partner with you to exalt the name of Jesus Christ from the Sea of Galilee all the way to Hume Lake and beyond.

Until we gather for another Jerusalem bagel...

Shalom,
