#95 - Content in All Circumstances

| Episode Guest: Wally Harrison

West Michigan pastor Wally Harrison is our podcast guest for this episode. Wally and his Harbor Church group just returned on October 18 from their study tour of Turkey! Fresh from the experience, he describes how Turkey exceeded people's expectations in terms of sheer beauty, historical sites, wonderful guide Gokhan, and enjoying delicious cuisine together in unique settings. Little did Wally and his group know at the beginning of the tour that they would have the opportunity to bring scripture to life in an unusual way. He and his team decided to respond with gratitude when their travel plans took an unexpected turn. The group had the opportunity to live out , with God's strength, Paul's powerful message in Philippians 4:11-13:
"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." International travel is full of variables, and it's how we respond that counts. As GTI's adage says, "Blessed are the flexible, for they will be bent but not broken." This is a great reminder to all of us to look for the good in what God is doing!

Philadelphia

To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write . . . (Revelation 3:7) The ancient city of Philadelphia lies beneath the modern city of Alasehir, Turkey. Philadelphia was the youngest of the cities addressed in Revelation, having been founded only in the 2nd century BC. The abundance of seismic activity throughout the city’s history has created a chaotic situation for excavators. There have been few inscriptions found and almost no significant excavations have been attempted. Philadelphia was known as an important religious center, even dubbed “Little Athens” by the 5th century AD.
