#24 Following Leads to Flourishing — Interview with Matt Lantz

| Episode Guest: Matt Lantz

Pastor Matt Lantz from Texas joins our podcast today. He talks about Makhtesh Ramon and the three types of deserts found in scripture. Matt points out how God led His people through the wilderness and used the land to disciple them. They found, as will we, that following God always leads to flourishing. Our fruitfulness depends on the God whom we serve, not our circumstances.

The three types of desert are:

MIDBAR (Isaiah 43:19) - survivable, where shepherds graze their flocks, small amounts of water and vegetation

TSIA (Psalm 105) - more harsh and rugged, less vegetation, requires hospitality to survive

YESHEMON (Psalm 68) - little to no vegetation, extreme conditions, not survivable

Matt delights in preparing the way for Jesus in the lives of men and women. One of his favorite ways of doing that is by leading groups to Israel - something he has been doing since 2008. Matt has been serving in full-time ministry since 2000 and is currently on staff at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas where he serves as the West Campus Pastor. Matt earned his Bachelor’s degree at Texas Christian University, and a Master’s degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is married to his wife, Darcie, and together they are raising three children.

Makhtesh Ramon

Machtesh Ramon is the most spectacular geological sight in the country. It is a window into the geological formation of the earth. The crater is 24 miles (40 km) long, 5 miles (8 km) wide, and 1600 feet (500 m) deep. The term machtesh is a geological term which means “mortar” as in mortar and pestle. Machtesh Qatan (Small) and Gadol (Large) look like mortar bowls in which grains are pounded with a pestle. This look is true of the big and little craters but not necessarily of Machtesh Ramon which is stretched out and narrow at one end.
