We’ve built into our study tours everything you need for an enjoyable and educational trip. We want you to be fully focused on the lessons and experiences you’ll encounter, and not be distracted by local tipping practices, transportation arrangements, or meal planning.

Scott Heare

Lead Pastor, Lake Travis United Methodist Church.

Reverend Scott Heare grew up in Austin, Texas and felt the call to be a pastor while attending Concordia Lutheran University. He graduated from Perkins School of Theology, SMU in 1994 and entered into the Methodist itineracy as an ordained pastor. It was at his first appointment at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Texas, where Scott was introduced to studying God’s word from a Hebraic perspective. In 2001, Scott was invited to go on an Israel In-Depth Study Tour with Ray VanderLaan. He returned with a fire in his chest and a passion for teaching God’s word in this context. Through prayer, Scott decided to study under Ray VanderLaan in lieu of pursuing a doctorate degree. Scott, along with his wife Cathi and their 4 children, lived in Jerusalem where Scott studied at Jerusalem University College; Scott has led yearly trips to Israel ever since. This approach to understanding the Jewishness of Jesus and the first century church has transformed Scott’s ministry. His passion for God’s word and unapologetic belief that we are called to live out God’s commands in community are a central part of his leadership. Scott currently serves as Sr. Pastor of Lake Travis United Methodist Church in Lakeway, Texas.

John Hinkebein

Lead Pastor, Riverside Community Church

John Hinkebein grew up in San Antonio and attended Abilene Christians University for his undergraduate degree in Youth and Family Ministry and Austin Presbyterian Seminary for his masters. John has served the local church for more than twenty years in various roles from youth pastor, Young Life, community pastors and currently John serves as lead pastor at Riverside Community Church. John took his first trip to Israel more than ten years ago and has been a student of the Holy Land ever since. This will be John's fifth trip to Israel and is looking forward to seeing how God will use this trip to mold your faith story. John, his wife Chrisit of 20 years and their two girls live in Bulverde, TX.
