A new song to sing

My volunteer work with the Hesed team is in the laundry department. Our day begins each morning filling department orders. Most are counted manually to get the correct amount to place in each cart. I have worked with five men named Amnon, Ronen, Marty , Israel and Doros. None of them speak English very well and my Hebrew is even worse. So we laugh, shake our heads, point at things and smile a lot. We are communicating better daily with the help of Google Translate.

We deliver laundry throughout the hospital. Everything is loaded onto carts that look like square metal boxes on wheels. Then we hook them all up to a tow cart. It looks like a small train with wheels. As we weave our way through the tunnels in the hospital with people jumping and the horn beeping, Amnon drives perfectly, never running into people or walls.

At first I wondered why God wanted me to return to Israel. I didn't have the opportunity to serve alongside the Israeli people in my previous trip here. I went on a tour. At first the laundry employees were unsure of me, but that uncertainty quickly dissolved. Now the hugs I get daily are genuine and heartfelt. They are loving and caring. They want people to come. I feel so thankful Friends of Israel accepted me to be part of the Hesed Team.

This morning I was reading Psalm 40 and God gave me assurance that He has set my feet on solid ground and given me a new song to sing. He has performed many wonders here in the past two weeks. His plans are too numerous to list.

The days are going fast and my heart is full. I am so glad I returned to Israel.
